Why shower glass is the standard in Dubai bathrooms
Shower glass, also called a shower glass partition, is a screen, door or full enclosure made of toughened safety glass that keeps water inside the shower area. It replaces shower curtains and old framed cubicles with a clean, open look that makes a bathroom feel larger.
In Dubai villas and apartments it is now the normal choice: glass is easy to keep clean, does not hold mould like fabric, and lets light reach the whole bathroom. A frameless glass shower also shows off the tiles and fittings you paid for.
Compared with a shower curtain, glass keeps water in better, does not need replacing every few months and does not trap damp against the tiles. Compared with an old framed cubicle, a frameless glass shower has almost no frames or tracks where grime and limescale can build up.

Sliding shower glass doors and screens
Sliding shower glass is the answer when there is no room for a door to swing: next to a toilet, in a long narrow bathroom or across an alcove.
- Frameless sliding: 8–10 mm glass hanging from a stainless steel top rail on rollers, with no bottom track to clean.
- Semi-frameless sliding: slim aluminium top and bottom channels; lower cost and easy to fit on uneven floors.
- Soft-close rollers: the door slows down before it closes, for a quiet, smooth feel.
- Sliding over a bath: sliding bathtub glass keeps the bath easy to use without a panel sticking out.
- Seals: overlap and bottom seals keep water in along the sliding line.
Sliding shower doors have more moving parts than a fixed screen, so the quality of the rollers and the rail matters. We only fit stainless steel systems suited to wet areas.

Typical sizes: shower doors are usually 600–900 mm wide, walk-in screens about 800–1,400 mm wide, and standard shower glass about 2,000 mm high. Floor-to-ceiling glass is made to your ceiling height.
Shower glass thickness and glass types
All shower glass must be toughened (tempered) safety glass. It is about four times stronger than ordinary glass and breaks into small blunt pieces instead of sharp shards. Learn more about tempered glass.

Clear and low-iron glass
Standard clear glass has a slight green edge. Low-iron (extra-clear) glass is crystal clear, so marble and tiles look true to colour.
Frosted, fluted and tinted
Frosted or sandblasted glass gives privacy, fluted glass blurs the view with vertical ribs, and grey or bronze tint adds a design feature.
Anti-limescale coating
A protective coating makes water bead and run off, so hard-water spots and soap scum are easier to clean. It can be factory-applied or added later.

As a rough guide, installed shower glass costs about AED 1,200–2,300 per m² of glass. More glass area and thicker glass cost more, and 12 mm panels need heavier hardware.

Custom shower glass made to measure
Few Dubai bathrooms have perfectly straight walls and level floors, so good shower glass is always custom made.
- Out-of-square walls: panels are cut to the real wall line, not a standard size, so gaps stay small and even.
- Half walls and knee walls: glass mounted on top of a tiled half wall with clamps or a channel.
- Sloped ceilings and niches: angled tops and notches cut before the glass is toughened.
- Steam and floor-to-ceiling showers: full-height glass with a sealed top panel.
- Neo-angle and U-shaped layouts: angled corner enclosures and three-sided U-shaped enclosures for showers set into a recess.
Toughened glass cannot be cut or drilled after toughening, so we measure after the tiles are finished and make every panel to that exact size.
Shower glass for Dubai: hard water, humidity and safety
Hard water and limescale
White spots on shower glass are minerals left behind when water dries. A squeegee after each shower, a coated glass and regular cleaning keep the glass clear.
Humidity and mould
Bathrooms with poor extraction stay damp, which attacks silicone and seals. Good ventilation and mould-resistant silicone make joints last longer.
Safety glass
Ask for toughened glass made to EN 12150. For extra peace of mind, heat-soaked toughened glass (EN 14179) reduces the rare risk of glass breaking by itself.

How to choose the right shower glass
These are the points we check at every measurement. Thinking about them first saves money and avoids a shower that splashes or leaks.
- Shower size and layout: an alcove, a corner, a walk-in wet room or a shower over the bath each suit a different glass layout.
- Door swing: a hinged door needs clear space outside the shower. If a toilet, vanity or towel rail is in the way, choose a sliding or folding door.
- Water spray: the position of the shower head decides how long a walk-in screen must be, or whether you need a door.
- Floor and drain: a shower tray, a tiled floor with a fall to the drain or a linear drain changes how the glass is sealed at the bottom.
- Height: standard glass stops below the ceiling to let steam out; full-height glass needs good extraction.
- Privacy and style: clear, low-iron, frosted or fluted glass, and a hardware finish that matches your taps.
Glass shower walls and wet and dry zones
Many Dubai bathrooms now use a fixed glass shower wall instead of a full enclosure, or a glass wall that splits the bathroom into a wet zone (shower and bath) and a dry zone (vanity and toilet). This keeps the floor dry, makes cleaning easier and keeps the room open and bright.
How shower glass installation works
Measure
We measure the finished tiles, check walls, floor fall and the tray, and agree the layout, door swing and finishes.
Make
Glass is cut, drilled, polished and toughened to your exact sizes. This usually takes 1–2 weeks.
Fit
Panels, hinges or rollers are fixed and aligned, then seals and silicone are applied. Most showers are fitted in one day.
Test
Door swing, closing and seals are checked with water. Leave the silicone to cure for about 24 hours before the first shower.

Keeping shower glass clean and leak-free
After each shower
Squeegee the glass and leave the door open so the enclosure dries.
Every week
Clean with a soft cloth and mild, non-abrasive glass cleaner or diluted vinegar.
Avoid
Scouring pads, bleach on seals and harsh acids on hardware finishes.
Every year
Check hinges, rollers, seals and silicone; replace worn seals before they leak.

Replacing an old shower enclosure
Many Dubai apartments still have the original framed cubicle or a curtain rail. Upgrading to frameless shower glass is usually a one-day job once the new glass is made.
- Removal: we take out the old doors, frames and silicone and clean the tiles back to a sound surface.
- Keep or change the tray: a good shower tray can usually stay; a tiled floor with a fall to the drain suits walk-in glass best.
- Old fixing holes: holes from the old frame are filled or covered by the new hardware.
- Same day use: after fitting, the silicone needs about 24 hours to cure before the first shower.

Why does shower glass sometimes break by itself?
Rarely, a tiny nickel sulphide inclusion in toughened glass can expand over time and shatter the pane. Heat-soak testing reduces this risk. Chipped edges and a door hitting a wall or tap can also cause breakage.
How do I stop my glass shower door from leaking?
Most leaks come from worn bottom or side seals, failed silicone or a door that has dropped out of line. Replacing the seals, resealing and adjusting the hinges usually fixes it without new glass.
How do I remove hard water stains from shower glass?
Use diluted white vinegar or a non-abrasive limescale cleaner with a soft cloth, then rinse and squeegee dry. A squeegee after every shower and an anti-limescale coating stop the spots coming back.
Is an anti-limescale coating worth it?
In Dubai, usually yes. The coating makes water bead and run off the glass, so mineral spots and soap scum are easier to wipe away and the glass stays clearer for longer.
Can you install glass over a bathtub?
Yes. Fixed, hinged and sliding bathtub glass screens replace a shower curtain. A fixed or hinged panel is the most common, and a sliding screen suits baths used every day.

Which shower hardware finish is best?
Polished chrome is the most durable and easy to match. Matt black, brushed gold and gunmetal suit modern bathrooms. Choose 304 or 316 stainless steel, and 316 for coastal homes.
Can I get frosted or privacy shower glass?
Yes. Frosted, sandblasted, fluted and tinted glass all give privacy while letting light through. For privacy at the touch of a switch, smart switchable glass is also possible.
What is the standard size of a glass shower door?
Most glass shower doors are 600–900 mm wide and about 2,000 mm high. Because every panel is made to measure, the door and fixed panels are sized to your opening rather than a catalogue size.
Do I need a shower tray for frameless shower glass?
No. Frameless glass can be fitted on a shower tray or directly on a tiled floor that falls to the drain. The bottom seal and silicone are chosen to suit the floor you have.
Can new shower glass be fitted on existing tiles?
Yes. Clamps, hinges and channels are fixed through the tiles into the wall behind, so you do not need to retile. We check the wall is solid enough to carry the glass first.
Can I get a custom shower glass door?
Yes. Doors are made to your width, height and opening direction, with your choice of glass, hinges, handle and finish, including doors for sloped ceilings and half walls.
What warranty do you give on shower glass?
Our shower glass comes with a 5-year warranty covering manufacturing defects in the glass and hardware and our installation work. Breakage caused by impact, force or misuse, such as a door slammed into a wall or tap, is not covered.
Is a bathroom glass door the same as a shower door?
Usually, yes. When people ask for a bathroom glass door they normally mean a glass shower door or screen inside the bathroom. The main door into a bathroom or toilet is a different product, usually a waterproof PVC or aluminium door, which is covered on our bathroom doors page.
